Filipino American Student Association
Photographs, 1998-1999

This collection was received as UPC 2006-03 at Washington State University (WSU) Libraries' Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections (MASC) in fall of 2006. The collection was processed by History graduate student Nathan Sowry and University Archivist Mark O'English in August, 2010. A printout of an online calendar of 2005-2006 FASA events came with the collection, and was discarded during processing.

ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY

Washington State University’s Filipino Club is a campus social organization for students from or descended from natives of the Philippines, and dates to 1922. It was reestablished in 1993 as the Filipino American Student Association (FASA).

ARRANGEMENT AND DESCRIPTION

This collection consists of approximately 500 photographs of activities and events of WSU’s Filipino American Student Association, apparently taken by group members during the 1998 and 1999 school years.

The collection originally came in three plain photo albums; the albums were discarded and the photographs were foldered in their original sleeves and retained in their original chronological order. While many of the photographs are unlabeled, many were described prior to their arrival at MASC and those descriptions are mounted in the photographs’ sleeves.

Papers, including photographs, from 1925-1946 of WSU’s Cosmopolitan Club, which incorporated the Filipino club, are held at MASC as Cage 703.
