Biography/History

The Washington-Idaho Symphony Association is the parent organization of the Washington-Idaho Symphony Orchestra, and related musical groups. It is located in the Washington cities of Pullman and Clarkston and the Idaho cities of Moscow and Lewiston. The organization was founded in 1972.

The W-I Symphony has presented a concert season each year since 1973-74. Normally performances are repeated at multiple locations, occasionally including outlying towns in addition to Lewiston, Pullman, and Moscow. The organization has also supported a choral group, a string quartet, a young artists competition, and various guest conductors and performers.

Arrangement

The arrangement of the records retains the order of the records at time of transferred to the Libraries. The three original accessions remain as distinct sequences of folders. The ordering of folders is informal, but distinct record series can be found for corporate minutes (box 1), Symphony League (box 2), general correspondence (boxes 2 and 3), publicity (box 4). Other ``series" concern: Young Artists competition, Artist in Residence program, financial reports, and concert files. Various subject files are included. A sequence that appears to have been the Office Manager's files is of some size (boxes 8-11). Over seventy tape recordings of Symphony performances are also included (boxes 12-14).

The treatment of arrangement and description is that of "records inventory," as opposed to formal processing of the records and a creation of a finding aid of the type that is commonly used by archives at academic institutions.
